Odds were that THE LAZARAIDIS MARRIAGE would be a great read even before I began reading the first page. I have now read 41 books by Rebecca Winters. Based on my rating criteria 78% rated 5 stars, 12% rated 4 stars, and 10% rated 3 stars. Ms. Winters did not disappoint. When our protagonists are introduced we are told Tracey Von Axel, our heroine, is a 25 year old poor little rich girl with millions in the bank. She exists to party, shop, and play fast and loose with her male admirers. Nikos Lazaridis, our hero, is a 38 year old Greek Billionaire who has successfully maintained his single status despite constant assault from determined, beautiful and charming applicants for the position of wife and mother. Most believe he has no interest the institution of marriage and family. If you buy into these introductory perceptions, it will not take long before you find things are not as they seem.As the story begins Tracey has just divorced her aristocrat husband of seven years. Her abusive and dictatorial Grandfather and her loving mother have both died. Now, as owner of 51% of the stock of her family's corporation, she fears significant problems from the chauvinistic, male dominated Board of Directors. Her College Degree and MBA credentials will not be enough, especially given the media thrashing she has been enduring for the past several years. Consequently, she has devised a plan to overcome her shortcomings. She will appeal to the Greek Billionaire, Nikos Lazaridis, a man who has befriended her in the past. She asks him to become her mentor for six months and teach her what she needs to know to overcome her fears as she assumes her position on the Board of Directors.Though it is a little touch and go, Nikos agrees to tutor her, even though he still believes all the negative publicity about Tracey is true. He thinks Tracey is simply trying to maneuver a marriage proposal out of him, so he agrees to play along for a time. She will soon give up and run off to find easier pickings. Tracey thinks she is going to accompany Nikos as he conducts business as usual, but she is mistaken. He takes her to the abandoned farm house where he grew up and explains she is going to learn about her corporation's business from its very roots. She will walk in the footsteps of her ancestors and will learn how to till the soil and plant a crop. She will toil in the sun, budget her funds, and learn the problems she must overcome to make a profit as a farmer. The evolution of the story from this point to the happy ending is filled with twists, turns, surprises, and page turning drama. Ms. Winters' only deviation from reality came when she has Nikos tell Tracey that the cost of jeans and tee shirts was not includable as a farming expense and she expresses surprise and says, "I didn't know that." There is no way anyone could get an MBA, as Tracey has done, and not know that. Even first year bookkeeping students know that. Despite that minor gaff, I have no choice but to award five stars for this novel.
